Hanoi's population would reach 3.2–3.3 million people by the year 2011, per capital GDP is hoping to have an increase of 2.4 times in comparison to that in 2000. GDP growth rate is 9.8% yearly. There are 1.5 millions working-age people. Hanoi is the city which has highest qualified labor force with skillful occupation. Trained labor force is accounted for 34 percent. Over the past 5 years, the region’s GDP growth has been increased by 15% per year in extended industry; there is also an increase of 22.16% per year in foreign capital investment area, driven mainly by industrial expansion, consumer spending and fixed investment.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam earned nearly 1.4 billion USD from the export of furniture over the past six months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 20.4 percent, according to the General Statistic Office.
The figure brought the industry to the 6 th place among the country’s key exporters, behind crude oil, garment and textiles, footwear, seafood and rice.

Vietnamese wood-based products have earned a firm foothold in 120 countries and territories, accounting for 0.8 percent of market share with the US , the European Union, and Japan being the three key markets.
Made-in-Vietnam furniture has also been exported to new markets such as Canada and a number of East European countries.

The Vietnam Woodwork and Forestry Products Association forecasted that woodwork export will continue increasing rapidly by between 10-40 percent by 2011, particularly in major markets.
